The Abydos Hieroglyphs

In the temple of Abydos, in Egypt, built on the orders of Seti I more than three thousand years ago, there is a set of carvings whose shapes are, to put it gently, strange.

Carvings on the temple ceiling at Abydos

Look closely at the worn stone and the forms start to resolve into something you would swear you recognize. One looks like a helicopter. Another like a small aircraft, the kind with a single propeller at the nose. A third has the long, smooth body of a craft built to move fast through air or water. None of this should be possible. The pharaoh who ordered the temple ruled an Egypt that knew nothing of engines, rotors, or flight.

A shape that reads, unmistakably, as a helicopter

Another that looks like a winged craft

I will be honest with you: I came across this information on a source I do not fully trust, and a story like this deserves caution before anything else. It would be easy to see machines in stone that the carvers never meant to put there. But I am not convinced it is a hoax either. The shapes are there, cut into the wall of a real temple that still stands. Go slowly with something like this. Look, wonder, and do not rush to close the door on it.
